Weekend Preview 2/10/2013

We’re looking forward to an action filled and grace packed weekend at Gospel Life.

Sunday morning in our teaching time we’ll be looking at the meaning of membership in a local church and the meaning of baptism.

During our morning service we’ll be having five individuals identify with Christ through baptism and seven individuals will be covenanting with our Gospel Life family as members.

Afterward we’ll be celebrating with a New Member’s Reception in honor of the new members and those that were baptized. The meal will feature our traditional Super Bowl of Chili Cook-off in which several men in our church battle to claim the title as the best chili cook. Don’t worry, we’ll try and keep the lights on for this Super Bowl:-).

Coming up:

  • Next Sunday: Missionary Guests: Sunday February 17th we will have missionary Jonathan Johnson and family with us. Jonathan is a specialist in apologetics, aesthetics, and philosophy. They will be presenting their ministry and giving insight into sharing Christ with an atheist.
  • Changed Into His Image: A new Sunday evening series based on the book by Dr. Jim Berg. The series will teach the process of spiritual growth and how to overcome sinful habits. Sessions will include teaching, practical application, and small group discussion. An accompanying workbook will be available.

Opportunities to Serve:

  • We’re in the “brainstorming stage” of starting a youth group. If you’re interested in volunteering or know of some interested teens please see Ken Ross, Cindy Hartman or indicate so on your connection card.
  • Family Fun Fest: We’re planning to host an outreach at the West End Park this summer. If you’re interested in serving on the planning team please check the box on your connection card.

Benevolence Needs:

If you know of a physical or financial need of someone in our church or community that you are unable to meet yourself, please let one of our deacons know about it.

Prayer Requests:

Prayer is a vital part of the ministry and life of our Gospel Life Family. There are many ways for you to share prayer requests with the church family.

  • Write them in the prayer requests section of your Connection Card.
  • Email them to prayer@gospellife.us or call Kaye Moore (304-355-8941). These requests are shared with the church and placed on the mid-week prayer sheet that is sent via email in hard copy at prayer meeting. Extra copies of this sheet are available at the resource table.
  • Share them on the church Facebook page (with the individual’s consent).

Weekend Preview 2/3/2013

This has been a full week with many sorrows and joys. I hope you’re looking forward to fellowshipping with God’s people, getting our hearts recharged, and calibrating our souls to serve our great Christ again next week.

This weekend we’re back in James 4, in which we’ll be talking about, “How to Deal with Temptation.” You might be asking yourself  “will this be applicable to me?”  Well, if you can read, breathe, eat or sit, it is 🙂  We all need God’s instruction on dealing with temptation.

 A few announcements:

  • This Sunday Night Bible Study @ 6pm: Why Baptist? What’s that all about? We’ll be discussing what it means to be a Baptist, and more importantly what it doesn’t mean. You might be surprised!
  •  New Sunday Evening Series: Beginning February 17th we will start a new Sunday Evening series, Changed Into His Image. The series will teach the process of spiritual growth and how to overcome sinful habits. Sessions will include teaching, practical application, and small group discussion. An accompanying workbook will be available.

Things to Note:

  • Kids Life Workers Meeting Today after the morning service. If you are interested in joining the Kids Life staff, this is a great time to jump in.
  • YAMS Lifegroup meets this Tuesday 6:30 pm at the Nguyen home.
  • Next Sunday: Baptism & New Members reception. Super Bowl of Chili meal afterward (no evening Bible Study).

State of the Church

State of the Church Address

This Sunday morning will be our State of the Church Address. Every year the president, governor, mayor, etc. gives a presentation on the progress and vision for their respective entities. We do something similar in the “State of the Church.” It’s a time to recalibrate ourselves on the scriptural purpose and mission of the church, and evaluate ourselves as a church family. It is also when the leadership shares our vision for the year along with spiritual and physical goals. If you want to know where, by God’s grace, we’re going as a church family, this Sunday is a great time to find out. Join the movement of Being, Doing, & Telling The Gospel!

Announcements:

  • Kids Life Workers Meeting: Next Sunday (2/3) after the morning service. If you are interested in joining the Kids Life staff, this is a great time to get involved.
  • Baptism & Membership Service: Sunday, February 10 we will have a special baptism service along with the testimonies of new members. Following the service will be a special “New Member’s Reception” that will feature our traditional “Super Bowl of Chili” cook-off. (Note: There will not be an evening service this week)
  • Mid-Week prayer meeting now meets at 10am. This is a great time to join us for prayer, fellowship, and some fun.
Ps…If you work in Keyser and are able to get away for lunch, we invite you to bring your lunch and join us (aka. “hang out”) at the church on Wednesdays. It’s a good refresher to fellowship with other Christians in our church family…who knows–there might even be some free food at the church:-)

Sunday Evening Schedule:

  • This Sunday Night: Member’s Meeting at 6pm: Members be sure to be there for this important part of our church life together. We will be voting on the 2013 Budget among other things.
  • New Sunday Evening Series: Beginning February 10th we will begin a new Sunday Evening series, Changed Into His Image. The series will teach the process of spiritual growth and how to overcome sinful habits. Sessions will include teaching, practical application, and small group discussion. An accompanying workbook will be available.

We look forward to seeing you this weekend!
